This month we are introducing Adam and Christine Shaw, who moved to Village West from Alaska 4 years ago. Adam works for Shell. Prior to that, he was active duty in the Coast Guard. As a military family, they moved 12 times, and had the wonderful opportunity to live all over the US.
Shortly after arriving in Texas, they decided to embrace the Texas life and purchased a fixer upper ranch with some iconic Texas Longhorns.
With all the Texas wildflowers in bloom, they thought the fields of the ranch would be perfect for raising beehives. The adventure has grown from a hobby to a small family business. Their kids jump in to help when they come to visit (two live in Seattle, one lives in Alaska). Christine’s mom and brother come out from Austin to help out with the hopes of getting some honey for their efforts. The Shaws are passionate about their bees and plants, and sustainable beekeeping.
They sell their delicious honey directly to consumers. There are 16oz glass jars of honey available for $15. Plastic squeeze bottles are also available.
For the holidays, they have a limited supply of small jars of honeycomb for $5, perfect for gift giving. These are very limited.
